If you are around my age you may remember this song...Nothing from nothing leaves nothing, you gotta have something, if you wanna be with me...it was one of those little ditties that would get stuck in my head when I was young.
Well I have realized time and time again in my weight loss journey that you do "gotta have something" if you wanna lose some weight. You just gotta have a plan, whether it is counting calories, following a diet plan, Eating Real Food (ERF) or going low, to no-carb (Paleo) which is what I'm doing, and you gotta have movement and H2O.
Now if you are still young you may get away with half the effort but us approaching the big 50 must line up our little ducks and keep them in a row. I don't have to be perfect but I must use a three point plan to lose any weight.
My plan tri-fecta is to cut out most carbs or at least the ones that are not completely necessary, like chips, sugary drinks, alcohol, sweets, and I even limit my white potato consumption to occasional. Empty carbs are a treat, not a lifestyle. Then I fill my diet with healthy foods, low fat protein and lots and lots of vegetables. That's one. Two is exercise. As often as I can for as much as my body can stand. Three is water. I drink as much water as I can throughout the day. I don't count it but its at least 32 ounces and more if I can make time to keep filling the glass.
I haven't found anything that works any better. I haven't found any secret short cuts or magic potions. (Except for that weight loss pill I took years ago that curbed my appetite for a time, but really just hurt me in the long run) Effective, long term weight success is all about a healthy life its about being honest with yourself.
Junk in = Junk out
Healthy in - Healthy out
You put in zero effort you will get zero reward. You bust it every day you can and you will get the reward equivalent to the effort and sacrifice. I don't kid myself anymore. I put in nothing - I get nothing. It really is that simple. Now if I can just keep living that daily and clinging to the truth!
Nothing from nothing leaves nothing - and I want something - and I'm gonna give it to me! There, I rewrote the song! It's a lovely tune! Hope its still one of those that gets stuck in my head.
That's all ~ Thanks y'all!!
Amen! Great post.
ReplyDeleteThanks Michele! I'm a little behind on my reading but I will catch up with you soon!
DeleteI clearly remember that song! Thanks! NOW - I'm going to be hearing it for the rest of the night! ;-)
ReplyDeleteIt seems like we're on a similar trek. I've got a lot of weight to lose and have cut out most carbs. Shoot - I think we're even close to the same age! And I, too, find that blogging helps!
I'm going to be checking up on you! Keep up the good work!!
Thanks Lucky Mama! I will have to check out your blog as well! I do so much better when blogging! Accountability is very helpful! Thanks for stopping by, hope you come back around!
DeleteI don't remember the song but it sounds like a very good one. Healthy in- Healthy out is a phrase we all should live by.
ReplyDeleteThanks Andy - we know it all too well, but sometimes I think we think we can sneak around it....silly thought...but that's how I am - sneaking chips when no one is around...not too smart!
DeleteYou are so right Having a plan and accountability really helps to avoid those big breaks. Unfortunately I also practice this sneaking around food quiet often, but much less since I started documenting my meals.
