Downward Facing Dog

Okay, I know I did a yoga post a couple months back but I wanted to follow up with a quick post today about the progress in that area. I usually try to write something creative because that's how I am but today its really just the facts.

Last night I went to the first advanced yoga class I have tried since going to Better Bodies Yoga in Memphis.  Its not their toughest class by any stretch but a step up from beginners.  I am happy to report I was able to do almost all the poses and keep up for the whole hour long class.  This would have been impossible back in September so I know I am getting stronger and more capable.

Downward Dog is a pose where you bend at the hips with hands out in front of you and let your head move between your arms trying to get your back as flat as possible. These were nothing for me when I was skinny and fit but when I started yoga back up in late August I could barely do a Downward Dog without wearing out. Last night we did many along with Planks and we transitioned quickly between the two.  No problem.

The last piece of the puzzle for me will be losing enough of my protruding abdomen (I'm being kind to myself and didn't say fat gut) to be able to move deeper into the folding poses.

I can't say enough about what yoga does for me.  I know my yoga studio of choice plays a big role in this because it is a great place with lots of supportive instructors who know what they're doing. I feel so lucky to have them. I leave there with better posture, greatly improved breathing, a ferocious appetite from burning off every carb available and a renewed sense of peace with myself.

The wrap up is - its working.  I am gaining strength, I am losing inches, I am moving the scale, not as much as I would like but that will take some more adjusting - but its all happening. The train that left the station back in August is still moving on down the track.  I couldn't ask for anything more from myself - I'm very grateful.

Gotta go - lots to do before I hit one more class today! Thanks for stopping by!

That's all ~ Thanks y'all!

  1. I'm the most inflexible person I know. Are you taking regular or hot yoga? Hot seems to be the rage around here.

    1. Girl the regular yoga is hot enough for me...They are killing me with the heat up to keep our muscles from getting injured. These little tiny women are covering up with blankets at the end of class and I am sweating profusely and gulping water! But I am going to power through if possible!
