Losing Dallie

I want to dedicate this blog to my sweet neice Dallie.  Dallie was born on December 24th 2009 and went to heaven on March 18th 2010.  Dallie was born with a congenital heart defect and had heart surgery when she was just days old.  We saw that sweet baby fight for every day she spent here on earth.  We watched my brother and sister-in-law draw from deep wells of strength and courage that were beyond normal and had to have been divine.  If we could have done anything to make her well, we would have. I have thought about Dallie so much this week.  Our precious little fighter who's daddy called Tuff and she was.

I challenge myself and anyone who cares, if God gave you a healthy heart and you have comprimised yours like I have mine by asking too much of it.  Think about your heart this week.  Do something nice for it like a good walk, a flight of stairs or just skip those extra fats.

Feb. 7-14 is Congenital Heart Defect Awareness week. Congenital Heart Disease is the most common birth defect, and is a leading cause of birth-defect related deaths worldwide. Remember all those lost to CHD and honor those still fighting.

It's not too late for us.  We still have time to turn things around.  I don't want to take my health for granted.  It is a gift and not a given and it is a responsibility not to be taken lightly, especially when there are folks around me that would love the chance to be healthy and enjoy life to it's fullest but they don't have that choice.  I want to honor our precious Dallie, by having a healthy heart.  Love you sweet baby!  Miss you!

  1. God bless you and your family. I am so sorry for your loss. I read about kids with genetic anomalies nearly daily, and I thank God daily for my healthy kids. Thank you for sharing your families story.

  3. Thank you so much for sharing something so personal. I can't even imagine how hard that must have been to type. I think she would be proud that you are honoring her memory in such a remarkable way.

  4. This was so touching to read. You only had Dallie to hold for less than 3 months, but she's in your heart forever. And now you're taking care of your heart. This post was a good reminder to me to do the same. We're blessed if we have a healthy heart and should never take it for granted.
